Second Chance Matric Support Programme: Free Tutoring Classes

Information on the Second Chance Matric Support within the Western Cape.

  1. The Second Chance Matric Support Programme (SCMSP) is a DBE initiative offering private candidates free tutoring classes who are registered to write the May/June examinations.

    The tutoring will cover the following subjects:

    • Afrikaans FAL
    • Agricultural Sciences
    • Business Studies
    • Economics
    • English FAL
    • Geography
    • History
    • Life Sciences
    • Mathematics
    • Mathematical Literacy
    • Physical Sciences
  2. Limited Second Chance Matric Support Centres were established in the Western Cape.

    The centres will provide support to part-time learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC).

    The programme will provide free tutoring to:

    1. NSC June Examination: Learners who wrote the NSC exam in previous exam sittings from 2008 to 2023 and wish to re-write any of their subjects in order to improve their overall results.
    2. NSC November Exam: Learners who wrote the NSC exam in previous exam sittings from 2008 to 2023 and wish to re-write any of their subjects in order to improve their overall results and NSC learners offering new subjects for which they completed the School Based Assessments (SBA) in 2023.
    3. SC June Exam: Adult learners who are 18 years and older, have at least a Grade 9 qualification / AET Level 4 qualification and who have not yet met the requirements for a Senior Certificate matric qualification or wish to improve on the previous results obtained.

     

    The Second Chance Centres will offer SELECTED subjects. Centres will NOT be offering ALL the subjects, but only selected ones.

  3. There are NO COSTS. All tuition is offered for free.

Registration Information

Candidates must register to write for the examination. Attending the second chance programme does not mean that you are automatically registered for the examination.

Documents to take along for the Registration for the Second Chance Tutoring Classes are:

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Copy of your matric statement
  • Proof of registration for the May/June 2024 examinations
