Shining bright at Sasol and Kagiso Trust Interprovincial Skills Competition

The spirit of competition, skill, and excellence was in full bloom at the Sasol and Kagiso Trust Interprovincial Teacher and Learner Skills Competition held from 05 – 06 October 2023, at the University of Johannesburg.
This remarkable event saw learners from five provinces - Free State, Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape - showcase their expertise in five specialised categories: Welding & Metalwork, Construction, Woodwork, Plumbing, and Power Systems. Additionally, teachers from three provinces - Limpopo, Free State, and Gauteng - competed in three specialisations: Welding, Construction, and Power Systems.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication throughout the competition, leaving a lasting mark and earning well-deserved accolades. The entire WCED team, under the leadership of Nathan Joseph, John Ellis and Neil Simons, played an instrumental role in representing the province with distinction.
Moreover, the competition's success was greatly indebted to the esteemed panel of judges who meticulously assessed the participants' skills. Our heartfelt gratitude to Eugene Anthony, Patrick Julius, Jaco Booysen, Elri Le Roux and Luyanda Kuta for their dedication and impartiality.
Behind every successful team there is a dedicated support system, and we want to acknowledge and thank Malem Van Heerden (Langenhoven Gymnasium), Jaques Stander (Bellville Technical High School), and Marinca Potgieter (Beaufort-West Secondary School) for their unwavering support and care for the WCED team. Their guidance and encouragement have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in this remarkable achievement.

- Jana-mari Emmerich - Langenhoven Gymnasium: 2nd Runner-up (Power Systems)
- Jaden Botha - Northpine Technical High School: Winner (Plumbing)
- Jadon Hendricks - Bellville Technical High School: 1st Runner-up (Plumbing)
These exceptional individuals have not only made the WCED proud but have also set a standard of excellence for their peers and future competitors.
