Metro South embarks on cooking masterclasses

Aspiring master chefs in the Metro South Education District are excited to be part of the district’s Cooks Series.
The programme aims to provide learners taking Hospitality and Consumer Studies as subjects with practical skills training, as well as inspire teachers to upskill themselves with cost-effective recipes that are aligned to the Recovery Annual Teaching Plans (RATP).
Melvina September, Curriculum Adviser for Hospitality and Consumer Studies, said the objective of the Metro South Cooks Series (MSCS) was to create a marked difference in both learners’ and teachers’ lives, one practical at a time.
She said teachers grow in confidence and competence when engaging with the programme. “At MSED, we are convinced that each practical is an opportunity to master a skill which will develop into an entrepreneurship. Industry-partners are keen to participate in further preparing learners for the world of work through offering hands-on workshops and demonstrations.”
Series 1 includes baking with yeast and learners have been making 4-strand braided breads, kitka rolls, charcoal breads, boule breads and twisted-pesto breads. To date, Summerdale High and Intsebenziswano High have successfully been put through their paces.
