Districts honour schools for NSC achievements

Recently, the Metro Metro Central Education district (MCED) and the West Coast Education District hosted separate National Senior Certificate Awards in recognition of top performing learners and schools in their district during the 2021 NSC examinations.
On Wednesday, 23 February 2022, MCED held their prestigious ceremony at Groote Schuur High School.
The event was well-attended and award recipients hailed from schools across the district, from Hout Bay to Gugulethu.
It was a night of celebration and acknowledgement. Head of Department, Brent Walters, addressed the guests, acknowledging how the district and its schools excelled.
Amongst some of these achievements was an increase in pass rate and bachelor pass rate. Four of the top ten most improved schools in 2021 are from Metro Central, as well as the most improved technical school (Intshukomo HS), the top Physical Science school (Claremont HS)and ten of the top twenty schools in the province.
The top maths, physical science learners also come from this district, as well as having fourteen of the forty merit list award winners!
There was much to celebrate on the evening and we thank the Groote Schuur Jazz band for their wonderful entertainment on the night!
A few days later, the West Coast Education District acknowledged their schools’ contribution to Quality Education at an event on 25 February 2022 at Weskus Special School.
Principals and Grade 12 Coordinators from all the schools in our Circuits (ranging from Malmesbury to Vredendal) were in attendance. The red carpet was rolled out for the guests which included the Head of Education, Brent Walters and the Executive Mayor of Saldanha Municipality, Andre Truter. The district also hosted partners and stakeholders from other provincial departments, NGOs, teacher unions and businesses.
The achievements attained by the Class of NSC 2021 candidates were acknowledged by the Head of Department, the District Director and the respective Circuit Managers. This was a time to reflect on their achievements and to give thanks to all parties who had collaborated to achieve successful outcomes.
The ceremony was a grand affair – from a red-carpet entrance to a display of thought-provoking artwork and drama from Schoonspruit Secondary School to exciting musical and dance items from learners at Steilhoogte Primary School, Elizabethfontein Primary School, and Piketberg High School.
A big thanks to all the schools who contributed towards the evening, including Weskus School and their learners who provided a delicious 3-course meal served by highly competent learners. A true showcase of the skills they are learning at the school!
