CTLI helps teachers unlock their superpowers
19 August 2020
The Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI) offers a variety of online Professional Development opportunities and courses for teachers.
The courses cover a wide range of topics including ICT skills and integration, curriculum programmes for foundation-, intermediate and inclusive education phases, as well as programmes for school management and leadership.
Links to these courses and registration procedures are available on the WCED - ePortal (https://wcedeportal.co.za) and the CTLI website (www.wcedctli.co.za).
Teachers who recently participated in the ICT Integration online courses provided rave reviews on Twitter. “Well done to TEAM CTLI for hosting so many informative, challenging PD session over these past couple of months. These enabled educators (myself included) in finding those particular apps which suit our own learning style as well as those of your learners,” remarked Amanda Mitchell, a teacher at Rosemoor Primary School in George.
The courses cater for all levels of skills as evidenced by the comment from another teacher. “This course was definitely a level up from the novice course. Truly amazing to learn using such well-structured and clear material. Thank you for a challenging learning experience."
Marchelle Fester of the CTLI said such feedback showed that the CTLI was on the right track with online courses. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CTLI changed its format from providing face to face courses at their Kuils River venue to online training.
Fester added that teachers were putting their newly acquired skills to good use. Some of the examples cited were the Digital Storytelling in the classroom course and the Video in the classroom – level 3 course. Teachers produced some amazing Book Creator books and videos.
Responding to one of Fester’s tweets, Ronald Kock, a teacher at Diazville Primary School, said “I think CTLI is helping teachers unlock their 21st century teaching superpowers”.
Theola Phillips applied all the skills gained in the CTLI’s Video in the classroom - Level 3 course in this video (https://youtube.com/watch?v=3mXflYVs-jc&feature=youtu.be)
