Vredelust Primary School raises the bar in terms of cleanliness

“Not sure I have EVER seen a cleaner school.”
These were just some of the kind words that David Millar, Director of the Metro North Education District, had to say about Vredelust Primary school in Boston, Bellville.
The school’s principal, Ronald Agulhas, said the cleanliness, culture, respect and values that Millar referred to in his tweet stems from the nine core values that are proudly displayed as you enter this beautiful school.
“These core values of responsibility, trustworthiness, pride, obedience, honesty, respect, perseverance and positive self-image are the driving forces behind the school’s all round cleanliness. In society and educational spheres today, schools are expected to be a safe haven where the environment of the school and its classrooms must be one where optimal learning can take place and conducive to learners getting in touch with various multi-intelligences.”
Mr Agulhas credited his whole staff for ensuring that the classrooms, desks, chairs, passages, bathrooms and playgrounds are kept in pristine condition. “A lot of the work that has been done with regards to the modernising of the school, has been done by the staff themselves. This in itself lends to the idea of each teacher taking responsibility for and pride in their workplace.”
When asked why they take so much pride in ensuring that the school is so clean and up to date, he said the recognition and accolades should go to the general cleaning and ground staff who do the actual work of keeping the school clean. “They too have bought into our values and this is evident in them doing their work with so much pride and compassion.”
