Grade 12 learners receive tips for success

6 February 2020

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has prepared a Tips for Success booklet for each of the province’s 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates to assist them with their examination preparations.

The booklet provides study tips, examination tips, bursary information, a course outline for all subjects, quick response (QR) codes for all telematics videos and other useful information.

The booklet should be presented to each Grade 12 candidate during the first term of 2020.

Teachers have been requested to discuss the content of the booklet with their Grade 12 classes and encourage candidates to read it.

Kian Ontong, one of the Western Cape’s top 20 matriculants in 2019, shared the following advice on Twitter:

“It seems obvious but I found it very important to be present and listen in class every day. This means no bunking whatsoever, and moreover actively listening so you can ask your teacher questions specific regarding what you don't understand, either during or after class.”

Ontong advised learners to do their homework every day. “Some subjects become second nature if practiced every day, and our brains often overestimate how long homework actually takes to complete. Homework also lets you see which areas you're lacking in. Attempt it always.”

The full thread with Ontong’s tips is available on Twitter.
