You are invited! Teacher wellbeing webinar!
26 October 2022
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will be hosting a Teacher Wellbeing Seminar on Saturday, 29 October 2022.
Please send to all teachers to join us as we acknowledge “TEACHER WELLBEING MATTERS”.
The virtual event is facilitated by the Directorate: Strategic People Management in collaboration with districts, other directorates across the WCED and organised labour.
South African commemorates Mental Health Awareness in October in a bid to break down negative perceptions and eradicate stigma and discrimination that people with mental illness are often subjected to.
Improving wellbeing and psychosocial support initiatives and response have been identified as one of the WCED’s priority areas.
Teachers are one of the department’s most valuable resources, and their wellbeing is very important to the WCED. Psychosocial support for staff members is available through the Employee Health and Wellness Programme.
The following psychosocial services are available to our staff:
- Family Challenges – Marital, Divorce, Parenting, Relationships
- Mental Health – Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Trauma counselling
- Bereavement counselling
- Alcohol abuse and drug dependency
- HIV and AIDS Management
- Practical advice on financial and basic legal issues.
Staff can contact the EWHP on their toll-free number: 0800 111 011 to have a confidential conversation with one of their counsellors who will provide counselling support.
Face-to -face counselling is also available.
The Teacher Wellbeing Virtual Seminar is an acknowledgement from the department that the wellbeing of every teacher, in every classroom, in every school in the Western Cape matters.
The programme will cover important topics such as “Stress Management”, “Mental Health and Wellness”, “Social Emotional Learning” and “Financial Management”.
