Where does the mantra “Enter to learn, Leave to Serve” come from?

Head of Department, Brian Schreuder, explains where the Mantra originally comes from and why the WCED introduced the phrase in the Western Cape.

“We want to convey a message to all our learners that they go to school to LEARN. They go to school to learn  to prepare themselves adequately for the future and for a life ahead so that they can contribute to serve society and serve South Africa at large.

We need to change the culture of our schools. Imagine if every learner went to school every day to learn something in every classroom?  It will go a long way in supporting our vision of quality education for every learner, in every classroom, in every school in the Province.

It is a mantra with a very deep-rooted meaning that all our learners must get to understand and come to live,” he says.
