Western Cape learners compete in Africa Spelling Bee

13 December 2022

Two Western Cape learners recently represented South Africa at the International Africa Spelling Bee 2022 Competition which was held in Blantyre, Malawi from 6 to 11 December 2022.

The Africa Spelling Bee was initiated by A Better Africa Foundation with eight other countries in 2015. Due to the COVID19 pandemic no competitions were held in 2020 and 2021,  but this year fifteen countries competed for the coveted prize of best Speller in Africa! This was the 5th edition of the competition.

Spellers from across Africa were accommodated at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre, Malawi.

Kaylin Hufke placed third in the Junior Division and Bayinnah Manjoo placed first in the Senior division of the speed rounds.

South Africa placed third overall in the Africa Spelling Bee Competition for 2022.

Spelling Bees not only provide invaluable educational experience for participating learners, but also allows learners to engage in healthy competition.
