Western Cape Education Department celebrates World Teacher’s Month

23 October 2020

Until the end of October, the Western Cape Education Department will be celebrating our classroom heroes and we wish to encourage our school communities to do the same.

The Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI), the WCED’s professional development centre, initiated videos by learners, teachers and officials to share their love and appreciation for teachers.

The theme for this year’s World Teachers Day celebrations is “Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future” and the WCED wants to pay tribute to teachers for continuing to educate, inspire and support learners in challenging conditions.

The first video in a series of appreciation videos features Jaden van Wyk, a Grade 4 learner at False Bay Primary School. He captures the multifaced aspects of the teaching profession which includes being a curriculum implementer, learning facilitator, socialization agent and health promoter.

Other videos include inspiring messages to teachers and school management teams.

The campaign will culminate on 29 October 2020 with a special message from Western Cape Head of Education, Brian Schreuder, during a CTLI webinar.

Be on the lookout for more appreciation videos.
