West Coast schools’ part of worldwide celebration

30 September 2021

Berghof Primary near Porterville and Steilhoogte Primary in Vredendal will be among 100 schools across the globe to participate in World Education Week.

This is a celebration of the work done by schools and education systems in the face of challenges throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Schools selected to participate will share their experiences and expertise gained over this period with teachers, schools and education systems around the world.

World Education Week 2021, which takes place online from 3 to 8 October, will be ‘School Celebration’. It will comprise 100 events, each aligned to one of ten sub-themes. The themes are community partnership and collaboration; innovation; overcoming adversity and building resilience; supporting healthy lives; environmental sustainability; creative approaches to problem-solving; global citizenship; developing others; inclusion; and student leadership.

Berghof Primary will host a school celebration on Friday, 08 October at 15:00 GMT (17:00 South African Time) on the theme community partnership and collaboration.

Berghof Primary’s vision allows for equitable and quality multigrade education for all learners.  The school identifies and meets learners’ needs to help them cope with future life challenges.

They achieve this through partnerships with the community and the education district. Join the event to learn about this rural school’s unique and integral approach.

Steilhoogte Primary School will host a school celebration on Friday, 8 October at 17:00 GMT (19:00 South African Time) on environmental sustainability.

The event will detail the use of nature conservation as a teaching medium. The school has improved the learners’ world by taking them out of the classroom and involving them in experiential learning. Join this event to see how you can apply this knowledge in your activities and classroom participation.

All events during World Education Week are free to attend and will stream in English with live, automated multilingual captions. Anyone wishing to attend can register here http://worldeduweek.org/.
