Three Western Cape schools can lay claim to award winners in the 2020 annual Western Cape Government Service Excellence Awards while the Metro East Education District and Head Office can also bask in the glory of their star performers.

Melissa Luckhoff, a school social worker, won silver in the category Inspirational Innovator. She developed an automated solution to empower educators and improve client engagement through online training.

Henk Arangies, Principal of Eversdal Primary School, received a bronze award in the same category. His school has always been at the forefront of technological advances and Arangies has been described as the pivot of success due to his knowledge, vision and passion to cater for the individual learner.

Ridwan Samodien, Principal of Kannemeyer Primary School in Grassy Park, was acknowledged as an exemplary leader and received a bronze award. The adjudication panel commended him for igniting improved social and academic outcomes for his school community and the education sector at large.

Samodien dedicated the award to his parents, siblings and the brilliant teachers he was blessed to be with from Grade 1 to Matric and beyond. “Standing on shoulder of giants I have been enabled to pick up the baton and live their legacy with a mantra that teaching is a work of heart. When we win the hearts of our children, we win their minds, and then we can start the process of building deep human relationships that will blossom, develop and give birth to possibility.”

Riverton Primary School in Bishop Lavis also had a bronze award winner. Samantha Britz provides office support at the school and received recognition as a frontline employee who visibly demonstrated commitment to citizen-centeredness.

Staff at the WCED Head Office celebrated with Enver Sherry of the Directorate Business Strategy and Stakeholder Management for winning bronze in the category Inspirational Support Employee.

Sherry supports schools in embracing the WCED’s Transform to Perform Strategy.

Congratulations to all the winners!
