16 September 2021
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) held the annual Female Leadership conference on Saturday, 4 September 2021.
The online event was attended by 297 WCED female Principals and Deputy Principals. As in previous years, the event received great reviews, being described as inspiring and informative by the attendees.
Chief Education Specialist: Special Projects, Kubeshini Govender said that the event is one of the highlights on the WCED Calendar each year.
“The attendance of almost 300 delegates is indicative of the appetite for professional development of our women leaders. The presenters served a smorgasbord of personal and emotional development skills and tools as well as hard skills needed for leadership in these uncertain and anxious times,” said Govender.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Compassionate Leadership in COVID times”.
Western Cape Minister of Education, Debbie Schäfer who spoke at the conference reflected on the impact that COVID-19 has had in our schools. She commended the leadership our principals have shown in dealing with these challenges.
The online event also had astounding speakers which included Khilona Radia who is the CEO of Antrum Biotech, Karen Shippey, Chief Director: Western Cape Government, Environmental Affairs and Ms Vusi Vokwana, who is Director at Kasi Catalyst. Attendees were also entertained by Diana Ferris, writer, poet and storyteller.
The WCED thanks all the speakers for a wonderful and informative engagement.
