WCED Female Principals’ Conference
26 October 2022
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) recently hosted an appreciation ceremony to thank the phenomenal speakers for their time and contributions to the webinar for female leaders in education.
Both events were hosted by the Directorate: Institutional Management and Governance (IMG).
The impressive line-up of speakers at the webinar included Maya Kooverjee, a transformational healing practitioner, Truida Prekel, an innovation catalyst, Helmien Slabber, principal of Rhenish Girls’ High School, Lisa Joshua-Sonn, CEO of Restore SA, Prof Carolina Ödman, an astrophysicist, and Philipa Kibali-Kagwa, a storyteller and executive coach and facilitator.
Attendees were also addressed by Brent Walters, Head of Education, with Dr Glynis Schreuder, Chief Education Specialist: FET Schools Curriculum, directing the programme.
Walters said women possess the competency skillset required for leadership, like organising, supervising, decision making, dealing with uncertainty, coping with pressure, etc. in abundance. He added that the WCED wanted to ensure that the best female leaders step forward to lead the organisation.
