Teachers spread messages of peace around the world
5 October 2020
Wendy Horn, Director of the Metro North Education District, was one of the United Nations Messengers of Peace on Monday, 21 September 2020, celebrating the International Day of Peace.
The 2020 theme for the International Day of Peace was “Shaping peace together.”
Every year since 2014, learners and teachers from across the globe submit their message of peace as part of The Ring of Peace. The annual event, which was co-founded by Robin Dunseath and Peter Ferris, is an initiative to bring peace around the world through education and the arts. Anyone can get involved, either by proposing a message of peace or as a messenger. The winning message is then sent around the world on the International Day of Peace, from one messenger to another, until it circles the globe. Each messenger films themselves so that the message can be viewed travelling around the world.
This year’s winning message was “I pray that this coronavirus mutates into a peace virus”.
Horn received the message from an educator in France and then sent it on to India.
