Sinenjongo High School Robotics team to represent South Africa in Germany

29 September 2022

Zenzile Elihle, Pachklaraz Kimbini and Dickson Madzivhondo of Sinenjongo High School in Joe Slovo Park in Milnerton, did their school proud when they competed and won in the national World Robot Olympiad competition in Johannesburg earlier this month.

They will now represent South Africa at the WRO international event in Dortmund, Germany from 17-19 November 2022.

“We are confident that they will represent Sinenjongo and South Africa well! You go boys!”, the school said in a Facebook post.

The World Robot Olympiad encourages young people from around the globe to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills through challenging and educational robotics competitions.

Five provincial competitions were held. The top teams were invited to compete in the national event in Gauteng.

The theme for 2022 is “My Robot My Friend” and teams could enter in the following categories:

Explorer; Robo Mission; Future Innovators; and Robo Sports.

The team from Sinenjongo High School, competing as The Rock Boyz, won gold in the Robo Sports Tennis category.

Three teams from Parklands College will join Sinenjongo in Germany.
Parklands College’s team TechnoBlade were crowned Champions of the Robo Mission category, the Senior Preparatory Future Innovators team, Triple Tech, won gold in their category for their amazing water rover which delivers water, responds to emergencies and delivers medical supplies to rural communities, and their Future Engineers team, Team Robodog, designed a self-driving car to navigate a road simulation course.

Congratulations to all the teams that participated and well done to the teams selected to compete at the international event.
