School offers drive-through initiative to support remote learning

12 June 2020

With only Grade 12 and Grade 7 learners allowed back at school as part of a phased reopening of schools, many schools have had to resort to creative ways to make sure learners are able to continue with school work at home.

Fanie Theron Primary School in Kraaifontein organised a drive-through initiative on Thursday, 04 June 2020 for parents of learners in the foundation phase to collect resources from the school. Principal Naas Beets explained: “At Fanie Theron we celebrate education…. in good - and Covid-19 times! We hosted an extremely successful drive-through initiative adhering to strict Covid-19 regulations, from 15:00 to 17:00.”

Beets said during the past two months, the teachers interacted with the school community by providing weekly distance learning opportunities via e-platforms.

“Yesterday was the highlight of our distance interaction with exited parents and learners when they had to drive-through the school premises to collect a support package from the class teacher, from the safety of their own vehicle. What a fantastic and successful opportunity to celebrate learning and to cherish those closest to our hearts….children!”

Hats off for the management team and foundation phase educators of Fanie Theron Primary!
