School admissions for 2021 have closed

18 March 2020

Statement by Bronagh Hammond: Director Communication of the Western Cape Education Department

The school admissions application window for the 2021 school year has now closed. We want to thank the thousands of parents who submitted their applications over the past month.

Schools will now consider all applications submitted during the period 17 March 2020 to 17 April 2020.

The WCED received over 361 000 applications for 2021 during this period.

We are, however, aware that there could be some parents who applied online over the past few days and have not yet been able to submit the necessary hard copy documents to schools. Parents had been given a two week period in which to do so, according to the process.

Due to the fact that schools will be closed for an extended holiday, we have extended the submission of hard copy documents, together with the printed online application form, to schools by the 17th of April 2020.

Note, that this ONLY applies to parents who had submitted online applications before the deadline of 17 March.

Parents who have not applied at schools or online between the period 17 February 2020 and 17 March 2020 are now late.

Should they still wish to apply, they are encouraged to do so, and will be considered as late applications.

Schools will now process the applications received up to 17 April 2020. These parents will receive notification of the outcome of their application between the 15th and 22nd of May.

Parents are then required to confirm acceptance by Friday 5 June 2020.

Late applications will be considered in the third term.
