Request for markers to apply

28 May 2020

The extended national lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in approximately 30 000 more candidates who are expected to write the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in November 2020.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) postponed the May/June examinations and announced that it will be merged with the November National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

To meet the requirement for such a large examination, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will require more markers than is normally appointed for the marking session in November.

The WCED urgently requests all Grade 12 teachers, as well as teachers who have Grade 12 teaching experience and who meet the criteria, to apply to mark the 2020 NSC scripts.

Every applicant, whether novice or a repeater marker, must apply every year using the online application system at https://exams.westerncape.gov.za/markers.

Novice markers in selected subjects must write a competency test to be able to mark.

Please do not hesitate to make contact with Mr Blackie Swart, Director: Assessment Management, should you need any further information at email address: Hendrik.Swart@westerncape.gov.za
