Private sector responds to school’s call for help

Fanie Theron Primary School in Kraaifontein recently opened a new ICT centre, a fully sponsored project to ensure that learners are being skilled for today’s digital world.

Principal Naas Beets said as the newly appointed headmaster, he was concerned about the status of the computer room as it only had 20 mini PCs. This required learners to share computers and earphones during their computer periods.

Beets approached private companies to assist. Steyn Capital Management, owned by Andre and Nicolette Steyn, agreed to sponsor 35 PCs, a server, switches and a rooter, cable work and installation, deployment of the computers and LAN upgrade as well as a mobile TV trolley.

The new ICT centre forms part of the library and Beets convinced the Governing Body to also upgrade the library facility. This was also dependent on sponsors who assisted with, amongst other things, painting, tiling, woodwork and installing burglar bars.

Beets thanked all the donors and said without their contribution the project would not have been possible.
