Overberg District helps teen to shine at Prom

4 December 2019

Generous donations from staff in the Overberg Education District ensured an unforgettable prom experience for a learner from the Agulhas School of Skills.

The district asked the school to identify a deserving learner to benefit from the all expenses paid sponsorship.

Andy Coetzee, Assistant Director: Planning and Information Management, said the beneficiary, Jodine Le Roux, come from very humble circumstances. Coetzee described Jodine as someone who has a face that exhibits honesty and sincerity. “She is always smiling and quickly crept into our hearts.” Jodine lives with her aunt in Bredasdorp.

“I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made it possible for Jodine to attend the Agulhas School of Skills, End of Year Prom 2019 event on Wednesday, 27 November 2019,” Coetzee said.

In addition to R900 donated by staff to cover expenses for the evening for Jodine and her partner, several staff members also contributed towards hairstyling, a facial, make-up, car hire, etc. A dressmaker specially made her a dress designed by Jodine herself.

“Once again, a very big thank you to the Overberg Education District staff, including interns, family and friends of the OED who opened their hearts and enabled us to demonstrate the T2P value of caring with our actions. A special thank you to the management of OED who allowed us the space to do something like this. Your hearts are indeed at the right place!” Coetzee concluded.
