NSC 2018 - Results Release

20 November 2018

The much anticipated Provincial and National results of the 2018 National Senior Certificate (NSC) are expected to be announced by Minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday 3rd January 2019.

Schools and candidates in the Western Cape will then receive their results on Friday 4th January 2019.

Schools collect their results from district offices on the morning of the release. They are then asked to analyse the results and check for any apparent errors.

Matric candidates will be able to collect their National Senior Certificate results an hour earlier in the Western Cape on Friday, 4 January 2019.

Candidates may collect their results at their schools from 11h00 instead of 12h00 noon as originally planned. The Western Cape Education Department has decided to release the results an hour earlier to make it easier for Muslim candidates to attend Friday prayers.

The individual candidate results will then be available on the Western Cape Government website from 14h00 on Friday 4th January 2019 - https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za - Candidates will have to enter their examination number and identity number in order to view their individual results on the WCED website.

Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of the results. All queries may be submitted to ExamResults@westerncape.gov.za

The 2018 NSC results will be published in the press on Saturday 5th January 2019 at 06:00.

Many parents and learners question why, in the Western Cape, learners have to wait until 12h00 (11h00 this year) the following day to receive their results. This is done for a number of reasons which include giving principals the opportunity to examine their results and to pick up any errors that may have occurred or to alert the WCED regarding a candidate that may be disappointed by their results and require counselling.

The much anticipated NSC Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday 10th January 2019 at Leeuwenhof.

The majority of candidates in the Western Cape will write their final exam on Monday 26th November - English Paper 3.

With one week to go, this is the final stretch after a long 12-year school career. The next week is an important one, we wish all our candidates writing the best until the final exam.

This is a reminder that candidates are required to be available up to the 6th of December 2018 for any eventuality - such as the need to rewrite a paper.

To all the NSC candidates - I would like to congratulate you on coming this far and motivate you to stay focused until you have completed your final examination.

Candidates are reminded that they can phone the WCED's Safe Schools Call Centre if they need to talk about any anxiety and stress they may be feeling. The toll-free number is 0800-45-46-47.
