Knysna Primary rises to the occasion

28 May 2020

Never in his wildest dreams did newly appointed Knysna Primary School Principal, Ivor White, imagine that he would have to step into his new position during such a strange and historical event as the Covid-19 lockdown.  It sure makes for a memorable start to his career at the helm of the school!

While in lockdown, the school has harnessed their Facebook page to bring a sense of connectedness and interaction between learners, parents and teachers. As soon as the lockdown started, the staff, parents and learners got involved on this social media platform, and ever since, the school community has engaged in a series of creative and fun challenges.

These challenges include a cycle challenge made by the school’s cyclists to other schools, a prefects’ challenge and class challenges. A very creative “Toilet Roll challenge” began, which stirred up much excitement and competition.

The clips can be viewed on their Facebook page: https://web.facebook.com/KnysnaPrimarySchool/videos/

As Knysna Primary is a balanced school, the cultural side was not neglected, and an art competition was run.

Many beautiful and creative entries on the 52 topics were received.

Hannie Vreken was the overall winner with her thought provoking and delightful entry on the topic:  Imaginary Friend.

Knysna Primary wish all WCED learners the very best as we all become part of an event which will surely be recorded in the history books. The school’s motto is “Forward”, and they anticipate looking back on this time when we all united, overcame and grew stronger, together.
