Growsmart Live on Air Championships underway!

19 August 2020

The much loved Growsmart Competition is back and gaining momentum!

Yes, this wonderful competition is underway which is now being held LIVE ON AIR!

The Western Cape Education Department in collaboration with Growthpoint Properties has for the last 11 years been dedicated to promoting the importance of Literacy and Mathematics in a way that benefits learners, schools, teachers and communities via the very popular Growsmart Educational Programme.

The competition is continuing this year, albeit in a very exciting and public way! Yes, for 2020, the Growsmart Competition is Live and On Air weekdays on Heart FM between 16h45 and 17h00.

Ryan O’Conner from the Heart FM Afternoon Drive Time is the host and quizmaster.  Two new schools will compete every day over the space of 20 weeks to answer as many Literacy and Mathematics questions as possible.

Learners are randomly selected from various schools across the Western Cape and have 60 seconds to answer 10 questions in Literacy and Mathematics.

Prizes include daily data giveaways from MTN and a tablet for the weekly winner to assist in @home learning for the months to come.

Ultimately the 2020 Growsmart on-air champion will walk away with the grand prize of R 20 000 towards their education.

Entering the competition is easy. Learners must be in Grades 4, 5 or 6 from any school in the Western Cape to enter and can simply log onto the Growsmart website (www.growsmart.org.za) and complete the online entry form or send a WhatsApp to enter (082 222 1049). Entrants will be randomly selected and invited to participate.

Learners are required to study the FREE Growsmart Newspapers available on the Growsmart website: www.growsmart.org.za  and WCED ePortal: https://wcedeportal.co.za/ to prepare for the daily competition. The questions are directly linked to the Intermediate Phase Languages Curriculum (CAPS).

On 13 November 2020, the Final Competition will be hosted, and 2 schools will battle it out for the Growsmart Championships crown.

Good luck to all the contestants!
