Florida HS alumni put mantra into action

8 August 2019

Florida High’s Matric Class of 1991 built a wall at the entrance of the Ravensmead school to display the Western Cape Education Department’s mantra “Enter to learn, Leave to serve”.

Principal Percy Fredericks said he was approached by one of the matric learners of 1991. They were planning a reunion and requested to make use of the school’s facilities. They also wanted to make a small financial contribution. “I then suggested that instead of giving money, that they could sponsor the construction of the wall, portraying the school name, school ethos and the mantra of the WCED.”

Fredericks said the construction of the wall sparked off more donations by other alumni groups such as the Class of 1978 who sponsored a television for the Telematics programme.

“We hope that more former learners will come on board.”

This is yet another example of how we can get former learners to contribute and support our school. Read how the St Idas PS Class of 1982 gave back to their school: https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za/news/st-idas-primary-s-alumni-give-back-school
