First coding and robotics mini conference at Metro East
11 March 2022
The Metro East Education District hosted a Mini Coding and Robotics Conference on Saturday, 19 February at the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute in Kuils River.
All the schools that are piloting Coding and Robotics this year were represented.
The aim of the conference was to expose the teachers to current innovative practices in the district. Teachers were provided with a plan of action, guidelines, a draft planning instrument and a follow up strategy. They were introduced to different applications, free resources and exhibiters to help them find reputable and implementable resources.
The keynote speaker, Ian Schroeder of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of the Western Cape, took the audience on a journey from the past into the future with a significant and engaging presentation.
The schools made excellent presentations and included the challenges they face when implementing Coding and Robotics.
The atmosphere was described as easy going and focused with a deeply engaging set of teachers.
The Curriculum Support team in the district, Trevor Daniels, Elmarie Petersen, Gezania De Jongh, Ashric Don and the CTLI Team headed by Christo Davids, were congratulated for a momentous, well-organized first District Coding and Robotics Conference in the province.
