Filmit nominees announced

23 November 2021

Excitement is mounting ahead of the announcement of the winners of the inaugural short film competition for high school learners from Southern Africa.

The Filmit competition is the brainchild of Luize Kroukamp (Head of Culture) and Jan-Hendrik Opperman (Head of Creative Arts and Drama) from Paul Roos Gymnasium and the main sponsors are Atterbury Property and WeBuyCars.

A total of 70 entries from 35 schools across South Africa and Namibia were received. Bradley Joshua (Gambit Films), Louis Pretorius and Albert Snyman (Infinity Films), Zandré Coetzer and Sharl van der Merwe (Nagvlug Films), composer Braam du Toit and the owners of Annie’s Wardrobe served as Filmit’s panel of judges.

Key industry persons provided online master classes to the finalists. Nineteen of the twenty initial finalists completed their films and submitted them in October 2021.

All films were available for viewing on the Paul Roos Gymnasium YouTube channel and the public could express their choice by liking and sharing their favourite movies.

Three nominees in each category have been identified. The winners will be announced at a gala event at Atlantic Studios in Cape Town on 10 December 2021.
