Durbanville primary school - world champions in 10th World Choir Games 2018

20 July 2018

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Durbanville Primary School Choir which has been named the World Champions of the 10th World Choir Games for Category 1 - Young Children's Choir.

The event, which takes place every second year, was held in Pretoria from 4th-14th July 2018. This was the first time that the event was held in an African country.

The school choir participated in two categories as follows:
C1: young children's choirs
C26: folklore with accompaniment

The choir had to prepare 4 songs per category and the winners were announced on Saturday 14th July 2018.

According to their website, "the idea to create an event like the World Choir Games is based on the Olympic ideals, which aim to peacefully unify people and nations connected by song in a fair competition".

Music in a universal language of the world and I am so incredibly proud of the Dubanville Primary School Choir. My hearty congratulations go to the school choir conducted by Anne-Mare Dippenaar for winning this award on home soil.

"It was a glorious moment when they announced that the Durbanville Primary School were the World Champions of the World Choir Games of Category 1. It was an extremely proud moment for the Durbies who ran on to the stage to share their big moment", said Ms Dippenaar (Durbanville Primary School Choir Conductor).
