Athletes deliver blazing performance at National Winter Games

A contingent of 299 athletes from the Western Cape took part in the National School Sport Winter Games Championship in Benoni, Gauteng, earlier this month where they achieved silver overall.
They won five bronze, four silver and six gold medals by the end of the tournament and just missed out on first position.
The Winter Games is the culmination of the Interschool leagues and learners compete in various sport codes such as Volleyball, Football, Netball, Rugby, Hockey, Tennis, Jukskei, Khokho and Chess.
The Western Cape athletes were supported by 29 managers, 31 coaches, 29 support staff, as well as a doctor and nine physiotherapists.
Gold winners included the Netball U19 Girls (deaf) and the Rugby U15 Boys and Girls teams.
In the art competition, a member of team Western Cape achieved first place for her drawing of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Logo.
