Appreciation for district officials who literally went the extra mile

Rietpoort Primary School in the Matzikama Municipality is one of the West Coast Education District’s remotest schools.

The school is 380 km from the district office, 150 km for the circuit office and 40 km from the border of the Northern Cape.

Rietpoort Primary School Principal Eben Miggel was understandably quite impressed when a horde of district officials braved a long journey and dirt road to attend a prize ceremony at the school.

The event was attended by Monica Stanley, Michelle Delport, Ulande Europa, Safoora Gqotso, Rossouw Mercuur, Maria Morris, Susanne Carstens and Ms Pool, as well as the Circuit Manager, George Claasen.

Miggel said their presence made the event exceptional and showed that they cared about the school, learners and the community.

“Their presence added shine to the event and made the learners feel special. It made me as a school manager very proud to know that I have seniors of such stature.”

He added that the community of Rietpoort will remember their presence as well as their inspiring words for a long time.

Claasen said he was impressed with the parents’ and the community’s absolute support for the school and the genuine interest in and concern they show for the education of their children.
