7th Annual Life Orientation Teacher Appreciation 2023
17 September 2023
The 7th Annual Life Orientation Teacher Appreciation 2023 function was held at the Century City Conference Centre.
The theme for 2023 was “Let inspiration be our Legacy” which was demonstrated by the excellent work delivered by our teachers. The appreciation ceremony, attended by teachers from all eight districts, was a celebration of this excellence.
There was further celebration as LO had achieved several milestones this year. These being:
•An official subject category for the Department of Basic Education’s National Teacher Awards (NTA). The first teacher from the Western Cape Education Department to win the NTA LO was Ingrid Morris from Thomas Wildschutt Primary School.
•Recognised by DBE at the National Education Excellence Awards (NEEA) held in Johannesburg in October.
•Driving the flagship programme, Career Clubs in the Western Cape Government’s Growth for Jobs Strategy (G4J).
Life Orientation Subject Advisers were also acknowledged for the excellent work that they are doing.
Aghmat Gamieldien, Deputy Principal of the College of Cape Town, received recognition for going the extra mile to assist learners with access to the college and for addressing teachers at career exhibitions.
Education partners shared in the celebrations and donated various items to make the event extra special for the attendees.
There is no doubt that this appreciation function is an important annual event for all Life Orientation teachers to the extent that teachers go out of their way to attend. Teachers travelled from across the province to be at the function.
