Calling all educators and schools of the Western Cape!

To recap, Story Stars is the epic adventure of Felix and Felicity, written by learners of the Western Cape and it’s time to send our heroes on their next quest. We want your learners to tell us what happens next...

Watch the episode below, share it with the class, and let’s get writing. Learners will need to write Felix and Felicity’s next chapter with themselves as the hero of the story.

The winner for the 2024 Story Stars essay competition will be announced on 20 February 2025. The latest episode will be available on 20 February 2025 after the launch function.

The deadline for 2025 entries is 12 May 2025.

We would like to encourage all Grade 4 learners to enter the competition and for their educators to submit the best stories in their class.

The 2025 assessment guidelines/rubric will be updated. We will be choosing the best English, Afrikaans and Xhosa story with the ultimate winner chosen from these 3 stories. 

We are increasing the prizes, with each school and teacher (of the winners) also receiving a prize.

Learners will need to write Felix and Felicity’s next chapter with themselves as the hero of the story.

Schools must submit their entries to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) by Monday, 12 May 2025.

The learner’s entry must have:

Name and surname of the learner, the school’s name, and the name, telephone and email address of the Grade 4 educator.

Additional notes

1. All stories must be the learner’s own words.
2. Only handwritten stories will be accepted.
3. Schools are to submit only their best stories.
4. Only scans that are clear and legible will be accepted.
