Paarl principal receives 2019 Leadership Excellence Award in After School Programming
14 November 2019
Andrew Groeneveld, Principal of New Orleans Secondary School in Paarl is committed to extra-curricular and co-curricular activities to enhance the holistic and social development of his learners.
This commitment has led to New Orleans Secondary School being regarded as one of the Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth (MOD) Programmes’ best performing schools.
The MOD Programme is an after-school programme that provides school-going youth with access to various fun-filled, play-based and modified activities in recreation and sport, as well as in arts and culture, on a daily basis.
To date, the school boasts a diversity of After School Programmes that includes over 10 sporting codes, art, first aid, tutoring and telematics classes. Groeneveld is also looking to include Brigading as an After School Programme to emphasize teamwork, leadership and discipline.
A forerunner for community engagement, Groenewald reaches out to the community at grassroots levels as part of the school’s ethos.
Not only does he display strong leadership for the learners, he is an excellent leader for his staff. His staff raves about how he treats them not just as colleagues but as people. He refers to his staff as special people because he notes that it takes heart to be an educator and an ever bigger heart to be able to change the vision of a child.
Congratulations to Mr Groenewald for winning the 2019 Leadership Excellence Award in After School Programming.
