Western Cape celebrates achievements of learners and schools in NSC exams
21 February 2023
Hard work and dedication paid off for the Western Cape’s top matriculants who were honoured at the 2022 National Senior Certificate Awards at Leeuwenhof in Cape Town.
Western Cape Education Minister, David Maynier, lauded the Class of 2022 for overcoming immense challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic, load-shedding and transport disruptions. “The Class of 2022 has demonstrated incredible grit, and gave their all, putting in hundreds of extra hours of work, and investing in their own futures.
“We must also recognise the outstanding efforts of our teachers, who have been doing the hard work of getting our learners back on track after the pandemic.
“To our officials, who supported our schools and helped facilitate Winter school and Spring school and extra tutoring and online support – thank you for the work that you do every day, which often goes unrecognized.
“And to the other important team members – our parents. We know that a school will succeed when you have actively involved parents. And when parents stand ready to support their child’s learning, that child excels.”
“So, congratulations to the Class of 2022 for overcoming the odds, because that is exactly what you did, with the support of your teachers and parents.”
Premier Alan Winde challenged the Class of 2022 to use their skills to solve the challenges which our country face. “Take that same energy, take that same drive and be part of the next stage of solutions to the major problems that we have here or off course, that the planet has, because we have got to build a better world. It is all of our responsibility, every single one of us, but more so than most, you. Because you have already shown that you can do it. You can overcome those odds. So, I want to say to you, congratulations. Thank you for making us so proud and please take up that baton. Please take up that challenge and change the world. I know you can.”
