Bellville High School’s javelin star, Kayla Reyneke, walked away with two top trophies and a special prize for her outstanding performance at the MTBS interschools athletics competition on 15 February 2020.

MTBS is one of the largest annual interschools competitions held between four high schools located in the Northern Suburbs. These schools are DF Malan, Tygerberg, Bellville and Stellenberg.

Kayla won the trophy for Best Overall Achievement (most points according to the ASA Table) and Best Achievement for Girls at the MTBS.

She threw a distance of 47.64 meters and improved the MTBS record by 9 meters.

The radio station Kfm 94.5 also presented their special “Kfm Red Jersey” prize to Kayla for her outstanding overall performance. The breakfast team visited the school to present the jersey to her.

Kayla became the South African Champion in javelin throw for girls u15 last year, when she was still a 14-year-old Grade 8 learner of Bellville High School. Kayla won gold at the SA Athletics Championships in Port Elizabeth when she threw 45.97 meters last year.

Kayla is also a talented cricket player and was included in the WP u19 girls cricket team last year.
