Bergville Primary School in Bishop Lavis has launched an awareness campaign to engage the community around values.

Principal Aleem Abrahams said the awareness campaign was in line with the Western Cape Education Department’s theme for this year, 2020: The Year of Functional Schools – Developing a values-driven team, as well as the Transform to Perform Strategy.

The school kicked off the year on a positive note by displaying values for each month on the morning of the first school day.  Abrahams said they also provided parents with cards depicting different values that they can discuss with their children at home.

“We now have children coming to school and telling us what their parents said about the values and how they apply it home. It is important that we create awareness amongst everybody because the values are not only applicable to the school, it is important values for the community to uphold as well.”

He said the response was overwhelmingly positive and various community organisations indicated that they would like to get involved and support the school, the learners and the parents.

How are you promoting values in your school, your management teams and in your community?
