Using Google Custom Search to search for Policy and Administration information:
Google updates its own search index pages by 'crawling' our web site from time to time. This means that the most recent additions to the site are not always reflected on the 'results' page. Note that some of the pages found by Google will load 'out of context' and the internal navigation will fail. Pages that have the "close this page" or the "return to the previous page" navigation option will attempt to close your browser! Some pages may have been moved since the last index 'crawl' and will not be found.
The "Teaching / Curriculum Support" search facility is always current. Use this facility to search for the most recent additions to the Curriculum Development web site.
Some basic tips to help you maximize the effectiveness of your search:
- Choosing the right search terms is the key to finding the information you need.
Start with the obvious – if you're looking for general information on examinations, try examinations.
But it's often advisable to use multiple search terms; if you want information specific to the timetable, you'll do better with examination timetable than with either examination or timetable by themselves.
- Capitalization
Searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, are understood as lower case.
- Automatic "and" queries
By default, Google only returns pages that include ALL of your search terms. There is no need to include "and" between terms. Keep in mind that the order in which the terms are typed will affect the search results.
- Automatic exclusion of common words
Google ignores common words and characters such as "where" and "how", as well as certain single digits and single letters.
- Phrase searches
Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase (as opposed to finding each of the search terms somewhere on a web page). In this case, put quotation marks around your search terms ("2012 NSC timetable").
