QIDS-UP to help with repairs

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will allocate funding from the QIDS-UP programme to assist the school in fixing the windows and to improve security.

Our officials responsible for the programme are working closely with the school on this project.

The project involves more than fixing the windows. We have to ensure the security of the school. We are waiting for quotes on erecting a concrete palisade fence at certain points on the perimeter.

The school has already built a palisade fence between school buildings to prevent outsiders from walking through the grounds.

We are also waiting for quotes on fixing the windows and erecting stone guards to protect the windows. Contractors will complete this project in phases over the next few weeks.

We welcome the initiative of the learners to become involved in this issue. Ultimately, the school's best defence will be the learners themselves, to prevent other learners from breaking the windows and to mobilise the community to protect the school.
