During a ceremony attended by some of the learners, the sponsors, WCED officials and the parents of the learners, Education MEC Cameron Dugmore said the they have proved that they can achieve, despite their disadvantaged backgrounds, and provide "role models for us all". "Their results also reflect the commitment of their teachers at every stage of their schooling. Behind every successful learner is a successful teacher. "These learners and their teachers have demonstrated that you can succeed, regardless of your circumstances, if you work hard and believe in yourself. "The success of these matriculants also reflects the support of their parents, who have encouraged their children to realise their potential. "I want to thank Mustek and Maskew Miller Longman for their generous sponsorship of these awards. We greatly value our partners who are working with us to ensure quality education for all."
