Breederivier-Overberg EMDC opens Worcester facilities

Statement by André Gaum, Western Cape Education Minister

The inauguration of the upgraded facilities of this Education Management and Development Centre (EMDC) is a milestone in the execution of the WCED's vision of effective education for all.

The development and expansion of every EMDC is crucial because of their function they fulfil as the channel for the allocation of resources, the implementation of policy and the execution of projects. We are serious about service delivery.

One of the possibilities being looked at is that every EMDC could function as a satellite campus of the Cape Education Institute.

The specific buildings have been used to house various educational institutions since 1942. The EMDC will aim at building on this tradition by serving as a platform to initiate development within the local community.

More specifically the EMDC will aim to eliminate dysfunctionality and lassitude. We will not tolerate any compromise to establish a learning culture and discipline.
