2014 SOUTH AFRICAN SCHOOLS' CHORAL EISTEDDFOD


1. The Department of Basic Education and the nine provincial education departments will be organising the South African Schools' Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) for both primary and secondary schools in 2014.

2. The SASCE will be held on district, provincial and national level and makes provision for soloists, ensembles and school choirs in the following sections:

  1. Foundation Phase;
  2. Intermediate Phase; and
  3. Further Education and Training Band.
3. Please note that the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will not make provision for the participation of senior phase (junior secondary school) choirs on all levels and categories due to the previously low provincial participation rate in this section and the small number of junior secondary schools in the province.

4. Furthermore the WCED will not make provision for the participation of own choice choirs taking part in the special schools category.

5. Foundation phase choirs will only participate in the district eisteddfod.

6. Music pieces have been prescribed for all sections.

7. The music scores and the participation rules can be downloaded from the WCED website at www.curriculum-dev.wcape.school.za

8. Elimination rounds will be held during April in an education district context on a date determined by the provincial co-ordinating committee. See annexure.

9. The winning Intermediate and FET choirs and soloists will be invited to take part in the provincial finals, which will be held from 23 to 25 May 2014.

10. The national finals will be held in Gauteng from 1 to 4 July 2014.

11. All school choirs are encouraged to participate in the eisteddfod. To enter, please complete the attached registration form and return it to the official responsible for school enrichment at your district office by 15 March 2014:
