1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) would like to afford all employees not in possession of a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) the opportunity to acquire one.
2. The purpose of the GETC is to equip learners with the values, knowledge and skills they need to enable or enhance their meaningful participation in society, contribute towards developing sustainable communities, provide a basis for learning in further education and training, and establish a firm foundation for the assumption of a productive and responsible role in the workplace.
3. The WCED, in conjunction with the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA), is offering 150 employees the opportunity to attend a WCED registered Adult Learning Centre in 2007.
4. Such centres are located in all districts and will offer tuition in ABET Level 1 - 4 to interested employees at no cost. The ETDP SETA will cover all costs.
5. All interested employees are requested to register their interest by completing the attached form and returning it to the WCED by 26 March 2007.
6. In order to keep the information of each interested employee as confidential as possible, those interested are requested to provide only their contact details. The ABET Subdirectorate, with the assistance of the Adult Education Centres, will make personal contact with each individual to obtain more specific information required for the placement of individuals at centres.
7. All WCED officials, including those at district and institution level, are requested to encourage all employees in need of adult education to register their interest by the due date, especially where employees cannot read and/or write.
