1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) values the commitment of our educators to empowering themselves, broadening their knowledge of education trends and developing their skills within the field of education.
2. The WCED is therefore pleased to announce that a bursary scheme has been established to assist educators who are studying towards their first post-graduate degree, B Ed Hons, specialising in any field of study, except School Management.
3. Educators, who have registered for the 2007 academic year are invited to apply for financial assistance in the form of the bursary for the remaining of their year(s) of study to complete the degree.
4. The granting of the bursary is subject to the following conditions:

(a) The educator must be a registered student at an accredited Higher Institution within the Western Cape;
(b) The educator must be in his/her first or second year of study;
(c) The educator must be permanently appointed in the service of the WCED;
(d) The educator may not be in receipt of a state bursary or any other bursary;
(e) The educator must be a South African citizen; and
(f) The study bursary will only cover tuition fees, which include the registration fees.

5. Each bursary application must consist of the following documents:

(a) A completed Application for Study Bursary form (Annexure A)
(b) Completed Agreement Form (Annexure B)
(c) Proof of registration for the 2007 academic year
(d) Written proof of study costs (registration fees, tuition fees) for the 2007 academic year. This information is obtainable from the Higher Education Institution you have registered with.

6. Applications must be submitted to the following address by Friday, 12 October 2007:
Head: Education
(For attention: Mr GC de Bruyn)
Directorate: Human Resource Development
Western Cape Education Department
Private Bag X9114

7. No late, incomplete or illegible applications will be considered.
8. The Bursary Committee will consider and prioritise all applications, and then make recommendations for the awarding of the bursaries. Bursary allocations will not exceed, but will not necessarily cover, the full registration and tuition fees. The number of applications received and the funds made available will determine the number of bursaries awarded.
9. Each successful applicant will be expected to enter into a formal agreement with the WCED to render a year's service for each year for which the bursary is awarded and to comply with the other stipulations outlined in the agreement.
