1. The Provincial Government of the Western Cape (PGWC) is once again proud to make these prestigious awards in recognition of officials who have managed to transcend the historical silos in government and establish and live out the culture of Batho Pele. It is through people with this kind of commitment and value system that the provincial government can achieve its goals.
2. Public servants of a very high calibre are critical for ensuring that the poor and vulnerable citizens of this province are at the centre of government's service delivery. Last year, our 2006 Gold Winner taught a 97-year-old senior citizen, Ms Anna Ernest of Touws Rivier, to read and write.
3. The WCED encourages you and your team to enter for the 2007 awards. Give the Provincial Government of the Western Cape an opportunity to recognise your efforts in one of the following four categories:
  • Project service excellence of the year (team or unit)
  • Service delivery project involving partnerships between the private sector and government, or between NGOs/CBOs and government, or between government departments
  • Service delivery institutions, e.g. schools, hospitals, clinics, courts or police stations
  • Service excellence enhancement on internal systems within government, e.g. Treasury, DotP, office of MEC or provincial legislature
4. The Directorate: Human Resource Development will co-ordinate the awards procedure for the WCED. Your registration of intent to be considered for an award must reach the Director: Human Resource Development at Room 8-70 or at fax number 021 467 2694 by 3 September 2007. A registration form is attached to this letter.
