1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) realises the importance of providing its employees with the necessary guidance and support towards adopting a healthy lifestyle. To this end, the WCED has introduced the Employee Health and Wellness Programme to provide employees with assistance when they have to deal with life's challenges and crises. The programme emphasises the need to be proactive in order to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
2. The WCED has arranged to provide Health and Wellness Day services to Head Office staff from 11:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday, 20 November 2007. The venue will be the Dromedaris Hall at the Good Hope Centre, Sir Lowry Road, Cape Town.
3. The following free services, amongst others, will be offered:
  • Awareness of counselling services
  • TB awareness
  • HIV/AIDS awareness
  • Substance abuse awareness
  • Cholesterol check
  • Hypertension check
  • Pap-smear information
  • Breast cancer information
  • Guidance on nutrition
  • Holistic massage therapy
  • Nail and hand care
  • Goodie bags
4. Please note that transport to and from Head Office will be provided by a minibus shuttle service from the Lower Plein Street entrance of Grand Central Towers.
5. Each employee will be away from work for approximately 25 minutes.
6. Line managers' are kindly requested to allow all employees to benefit by these free services, whilst ensuring that all essential Departmental functions are not disrupted.
7. Kindly bring this minute to the attention of all WCED-employed staff at Head Office.
