| HIV/AIDS WORKPLACE PROGRAMME: PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING FOR PUBLIC SERVANTS |

In terms of the Provincial Framework on HIV and AIDS in the Workplace, each department must train one person per 50 employees as a peer educator.

| 2. |
The role and function of a peer educator is to create awareness about HIV and AIDS at informal level and to refer employees to the relevant support structures. |
| 3. |
The peer educator training that will be provided will offer an opportunity to those employees who wish to become involved in health management. A typical peer educator should be a good and impartial listener, have a desire to help his or her fellow man, and be a person who can be trusted to maintain confidential information.

Details of the 3-day training course for peer educators are as follows:
Dates: 11, 12 & 13 February 2008
Time: 08:00 to 15:30 each day
Venue: Cape Town Central Business District

It would be appreciated if you would nominate employees on any level who wish to become peer educators Kindly note that the training session is for public service employees only.

A peer educator application form is attached for completion by each nominee and, when completed, must faxed, for the attention of Matthew Daniel, to fax number 021 467 2694 by 28 January 2008. Note that completion of the application form does not automatically guarantee acceptance for the training course.
