Westerford High ranked top school in the province

12 March 2021

Westerford High School’s educational offering in and out of the classroom has positioned the 68-year old institution as one of the top schools in the Western Cape for many years.

After the excellent results of their matriculants in the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, Westerford was celebrated as the top school in the province at the annual NSC awards on 9 March 2021 at Leeuwenhof. Key indicators to be in contention for the coveted award include distinction percentage, Mathematics pass rate percentage, Mathematics and Physics participation and the school’s throughput rate.

Westerford High continued their proud tradition of a 100% pass rate and achieved a Bachelor pass rate of 99,4%.

Principal Mark Smith attributed the school’s success in the matric exams to teamwork. “We have a staff who are committed right from the start in Grade 8. We take in learners from over 60 different primary schools and we have quality teachers who care for the individual and want to ensure that each learner realise their potential.”

He said the school was immensely proud of the learners and their personal achievements in the exams after an unprecedented year.

Eight of the school’s learners were among the top achievers that were presented with awards on Tuesday.
