WC shines in SA Maths Challenge

Sweet Valley Primary School was the best overall performing school in the South African Mathematics Challenge for learners in Grades 4 to 7.

The top 20 national winners were announced at an award ceremony at Monte Casino in Johannesburg.

Western Cape learners made the province proud with five medals in the junior category (Grades 4 – 5) and five in the senior category.

The junior medallists were Lisa Browne (Sweet Valley Primary); Hannah Joubert (Hermanus Primary) Jan Karsten (Laerskool Jan van Riebeeck); Ben Maree (Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory) and Eli Williams (Sweet Valley Primary).

In the senior category, medals were awarded to the following Sweet Valley Primary School learners: Jonty Bresler, Anna Lumby, Simon Oosthuizen and Kendall Slade. Etienne Toerien of Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School was the other Western Cape medallist.

Laerskool Parow Vallei received an award for best performing quintile 4 school and Sun Valley was the best performing quintile 5 school.
