T2P: ECKED lead Grade 12 Growth Mindset

19 September 2019

On 6 August 2019, a group of principals and teaching staff of seven high schools in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay attended a Growth Mindset (GM) facilitation session at Knysna High School.

Circuit 4 officials, including the Circuit Manager, Suzette de Villiers, were also in attendance.

The Eden and Central Karoo Education District (ECKED) is taking the lead in GM implementation and is currently piloting the programme to Grade 12s.

The scene was set for active engagement and interaction. Trainees and officials alike were all very enthusiastic and in high spirits right to the end. The “take home” impression was that everybody was ready to serve and assist the Grade 12s to achieve their potential with some attendees verbalising that they “envisage a positive difference in the overall National Senior Certificate (NSC) results at the end of the year!”

A further positive spin-off is that the schools that attended the session would have a head start in 2020 and could deliver the programme to their NSC candidates without delay as soon as schools open in January.

Following the training, the new GM master facilitators chuffed, excited and armed with their “license” to facilitate the GM strategy to Grade 12 learners, already conducted a planning session to implement the programme. They are eager to unleash the power of “yet” on their matriculants as opposed to the common place fixed mindset that have seemingly captured their learners for far too long.
